It's awesome to be in love. When you find that special person you just want to spend every minute of the day with them. But, then you notice they are spending every minute with you. You are never allowed to spend time with your friends or your family. This special person tells you, "Oh baby, I love you. We don't need anything or anyone, just our love." Sounds real flattering, but this is dangerous behavior. When someone does this to you, they are trying to control you, and that is when it becomes abusive. Abuse in relationships does not heal itself. It will only go farther and faster. If you feel something is scary or wrong in your relationship, there is help. There’s this kid - or kids –who just
won’t leave you alone. They are
always in your face. They make
fun of you in the cafeteria. They
trip you in the halls just to make
everyone else laugh. They tease
and taunt you as you walk home
from school. You put up with it
because you don’t know what else
to do. You can make it stop. There
is someone who can help. Talk to
an adult – someone you trust –
someone who will be cool about
helping you out. If you don’t have
an adult that you trust here is a
resource that can help.

Okay, you are really being enticed (or threatened)
to join a gang. You want respect. Is it really
respect or is it fear? What does your
gut tell you? There is a huge
difference between respect and fear.
Respect makes you feel good, while fear makes you feel bad. Does
the gang demand respect
of members while they threaten them?
That ain’t respect, man, it’s fear. Get
that facts, because once you’re in,
you can’t get out.
